The Basingstoke Alliance SCITT was established in 2014 to train new teachers in the latest research informed teaching theory and practice. Offering a ‘human first’ and high quality teacher training across the Basingstoke area, they have been providing the local community with passionate and confident teachers.

In 2023, The Basingstoke Alliance SCITT joined forces with the i2i Teaching Partnership as a Lead Partner to build upon their success and to strengthen the opportunities for potential teachers even further across Hampshire.

i2i Teaching Partnership SCITT - Basingstoke Training Centre

Structure of the Training Centre

As an i2i Basingstoke Centre Trainee, each week you will spend one day at the Basingstoke training centre and four days in your placement school (for the first six weeks of the programme you will spend 2 days a week at the training centre and 3 days in your placement school).

Your weekly Pedagogical and Professional Studies interactive sessions will teach you the theory of teaching (pedagogy), as well as develop your critical thinking, analytical and research skills, and are a great opportunity to build your support network with your fellow trainees.

From the very start of the programme you will be in your placement school making a difference. From shadowing and observing at the start to gradually taking responsibility for planning and delivering lessons, you will be implementing the theoretical knowledge taught during your weekly professional studies training days. Your main placement school is selected based on a number of factors, including most importantly where you live, and the availability of a suitable Mentor to support and guide you.

Meet The Team

Dr Kelly Richens - i2i Teaching Partnership Basingstoke Training Centre Director

Dr Kelly Woodford-Richens

Basingstoke Centre Director

Kelly is a former post-doctoral scientist who has been teaching for 13 years. Her love of research continued into her career change, and she remains committed to research-informed practice. She was asked by the National Association of School Based Teacher Trainers (NASBTT) to write the book 'Essential Guides for Early Career Teachers: Using Cognitive Science in the Classroom' which was published in November 2021. Kelly is a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching recognising the impact she has made on the profession in the last 10 years.

Kelly is passionate about training teachers and believes that being human-first in our understanding of pupils is fundamental to their success in the classroom. This value of relationships extends to how she trains her teachers, and she is proud of the support she gives to ensure they 'thrive' in not 'survive' their teacher training year.

Claire Daniel i2i Basingstoke Training Centre Administration Lead

Claire Daniel

Basingstoke Training Centre Administration Lead

Claire joined the Basingstoke SCITT in 2014 when they first started training teachers, providing admin support alongside working for the school as a health and safety coordinator and clerk to the Governors. As the SCITT grew, so did Claire’s role and she now works solely for the SCITT with responsibility for all aspects of administration including compliance, finance, recruitment and pastoral support. Claire is also trained as an adult mental health first aider, and this experience along with her caring and compassionate nature enables her to provide incredible support to the Basingstoke Centre trainees. Claire is excited and proud to be working with the i2i team now in this exciting new chapter of growth.

Outside of work, Claire enjoys going on long walks with her rescue pup.  She also has a very creative side and particularly enjoys decorating - a pastime she finds very therapeutic.
