In September 2023, Thamesmead SCITT joined the i2i Teaching Partnership as a training centre in an exciting collaboration that offers increased teacher training opportunities and means that the local community benefits from a continued and growing source of highly trained newly qualified teachers.

Phil Reeves Thamesmead School Head Teacher

“We are passionate about ensuring there are inspiring training opportunities and experiences for potential future secondary school teachers across our established and valued partnership, and through working with i2i this will strengthen further”

Phil Reeves, Headteacher at Thamesmead School

Structure of the Training Centre

As an i2i Thamesmead Centre Trainee, each week you will spend one day at the Thamesmead School training centre and four days in your placement school (for the first six weeks of the programme you will spend 2 days a week at the training centre and 3 days in your placement school).

Your weekly Pedagogical and Professional Studies interactive sessions will teach you the theory of teaching (pedagogy), as well as develop your critical thinking, analytical and research skills, and are a great opportunity to build your support network with your fellow trainees.

From the very start of the i2i programme you will be in your placement school making a difference. From shadowing and observing at the start to gradually taking responsibility for planning and delivering lessons, you will be implementing the theoretical knowledge taught during your weekly professional studies training days. Your main placement school is selected based on a number of factors, including most importantly where you live, and the availability of a suitable Mentor to support and guide you.
